Do you feel like you don't have time?
“I don’t have time” used to be the main thing that played in my mind, over and over again like a record that was skipping.
I sooo wanted to level up the amount of VALUE I was giving in my work AND at the same time find some balance in my life, and yet I couldn’t find a way to make it happen amongst the busy-ness I was committed to.
And the sad part was that I was TOTALLY in charge of my schedule!
When I started receiving coaching I realized that it had NOTHING to do with how much time I had or didn’t have, and everything to do with my brain wanting to keep me safe!
Do you hear yourself saying this too?
Is it consistently hard to find the time for the things that are important to you? I’m talking about things that are your big dreams or visions for your life. Things like changing careers or leveling up in the one you have now, giving yourself the extra care you know you need, or spending more time with loved ones.
You are not alone if it feels hard to carve out time for things that you are not already doing.
This thought of “not having the time” is one of the most common ways we keep ourselves stuck in what we don’t want.
See, our brains' job is to keep us safe and it does that by telling us NOT to do new things, even when we really want to. It will find every reason to keep us from doing the new scary thing.
If you want to move forward, try this…
Instead of believing the story your brain is offering you, ask yourself:
“Where might I find the time?”
“What can I do to make this a priority?”
“What have I been prioritizing that isn’t in line with what I truly want?”
“How will it feel when I make time for this dream/project/self-care?”
“What support might I need to ask for?” (This can be a big one, as many of us try to do everything on our own)
Asking yourself a question like this will redirect your brain and train it to search for an ANSWER vs. PROOF that you don’t have time.
Asking yourself a “better question” is a real game changer when it comes to managing your brain.
