Last week was stressful. I’ve got a quick tip to help.

No matter your political views, or how you feel about the outcome of the election, last week was a stressful one.

I know that I’m feeling it, and I know I’m not alone.

Especially in the last few months, it’s been hard to escape hearing chatter about the past and speculations about the future, and there’s been plenty of polarizing opinions about what is best for our country.

It’s been a lot, to say the least.

I want to offer something to help with this stress. And to bring you back into the PRESENT moment and back into connection with YOURSELF.

This is what we need right now in order to be able to move forward.

So much of our stress in general is caused by letting our thoughts of the past or the future consume us. Worrying about what happened to us (the individuals and the collective) before. Worrying about what might happen in the future.

However, when we can connect to ourselves in the present moment we can start to shift out of stress mode. It’s from this place that we can see more clearly what we DO have power over, and how we can connect to hope and inspiration.

Before we get into the practice, I want to make sure that if you are feeling some big emotions, that you take some time to really feel them. Let yourself feel however you feel, try to name the feeling if possible, and find a way to express it that feels good to you.

Then, find a way to connect to your BODY.

Connecting to your body is the quickest way to drop into the present moment and start to shift out of stress mode.

This can look like simply taking a few breaths, while noticing the sensation of breathing in your body.

Or you could try rubbing the palms of your hands together and tuning into how it feels.

It could even be getting into motion by taking a walk in nature or doing some kind of movement practice.

Whatever you choose, use it as a way to come back to yourself, over and over again if necessary.

Let me know how it goes, and also…go ahead and step away from the news for a bit. We deserve a break.
