Do you ever experience imposter syndrome?
Do you ever experience imposter syndrome?
I know I have and it's really not fun to be in the throes of it. To feel like you aren't qualified to be doing the task you've been handed, even though you have YEARS of experience.
Or to want to stretch yourself by taking on a new challenge and then suddenly be hit with an onslaught of thoughts that remind you that this is not your wheelhouse, other people do it better or some other version of debilitating thoughts.
I have a few thoughts on this I wanted to share...
The only thing that’s bad about imposter syndrome is that it FEELS bad when we experience it, and we think that means it IS bad, and that there is something innately wrong with us for feeling that way.
When in reality, if we know how to take it for what it is (fear that is showing up because we’re moving out of our comfort zone) AND we know how to process that fear (instead of trying to just shove it away) we can actually WELCOME imposter syndrome as a sign that we are growing in ways that will be totally worth the temporary discomfort.
It will still feel yucky when it shows up, but that feeling won’t stick around as long, and you’ll be able to regularly take on new challenges.
I made a short video about this where I dive in a bit deeper. Click here to watch.
