What do you really believe about rest

"Oh I'm not good at resting."

This was said by my client recently as we were talking about how exhausted she was feeling.

She went on to tell me that when she does give herself the chance to rest, she quickly starts feeling uncomfortable. Like it's something she really shouldn't be doing.

There's a fear that she'll be judged if someone sees her reading while there's laundry to be folded. Or if she's not being productive every moment and hustling towards her goals, that she won't be successful.

There's a constant push to keep moving no matter what. And it's draining her energy.

As we explored, it all came down to this one belief...

"I'm not a good person if I'm not being productive." 🤯

When she said that I could feel the weight of her words. The constant pressure on her shoulders she's been telling me about made sense. I could see how much this belief was costing her.

Can you relate to that belief? Have you ever questioned your own beliefs around rest?

It's so ingrained in our culture. When we've grown up hearing "make yourself useful", "an idle mind is the devil's workshop" or just being praised for our achievements, it's no wonder so many of us default to using output as a sign of our worth.

One of the biggest shifts I've made in my life is relearning who I am without the constant busy-ness, and fully integrating rest as PART of my process, not a thing I'm forced to do when my body is at its breaking point. I've had to adjust my beliefs around rest and my worthiness when I do so.

If you feel exhausted, AND resting makes you feel ancy, it’s a good idea to question what you BELIEVE about rest, and what it means about YOU.

‘Cause if you believe you aren’t allowed to, aren’t supposed to, that everything will fall apart if you do, or you’ll be judged for it, then this is why you can’t shake feeling tired.

There's a time and a place for the doing. And the surprise twist?

When you give yourself the rest you need, you actually unlock a new level of productivity that flows with ease, rather than relying on your inner drill sergeant.

If you relate to this, I can help you uncover AND reshape what you believe about your ability to rest. To PAUSE. To feel ok about setting things down for a minute.

Sound like something you need? Let’s chat.
